Testimonials from Prior Fellows
“I had an amazing experience during my JDMI abdominopelvic Radiology Fellowship that profoundly shaped my career. The program’s comprehensive curriculum seamlessly blends advanced imaging techniques, clinical correlation, and cutting-edge research opportunities. Under the guidance of world-class faculty, I gained expertise in interpreting a wide spectrum of abdominopelvic conditions on all relevant modalities, from routine cases to rare and complex pathologies.
The hands-on training was exceptional with ample procedural opportunities, both supervised and unsupervised where appropriate, that prepared me well for independent practice. The supportive environment fostered growth, encouraging me to take on challenges with confidence while also providing appropriate supervision and back up to ensure safety.
Equally impressive were the resources available, including state-of-the-art imaging technologies and a robust case database that enriched my learning experience. The emphasis on mentorship and professional development prepared me not just to excel clinically but also to contribute meaningfully to the field.
I am incredibly grateful for this transformative journey and highly recommend this fellowship to any radiologist seeking to specialize in abdominopelvic imaging. It is a program that truly equips its graduates to lead and innovate in their careers.”

“I was incredibly fortunate to be selected as a JDMI/UMIT Abdominal Imaging Fellow. This program offers unparalleled exposure to a wide range of imaging pathologies while providing the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected radiologists in the field. The entire team, from radiologists to sonographers to administrative staff, are genuinely invested in your development and foster a supportive, engaging, and enjoyable work environment. I also quickly formed lasting friendships with fellow trainees who come from around the globe to be part of this exceptional program. Through this experience, I gained invaluable skills that have significantly enhanced my practice as a community radiologist in the Greater Toronto Area. Additionally, the relationships I’ve built with the staff radiologists and other fellows have proven to be invaluable, and I frequently reach out for both personal and professional guidance. I highly recommend this program to anyone seeking an exceptional education in abdominal radiology and the opportunity to collaborate with highly skilled radiologists and support staff, all while enjoying a fulfilling year in Toronto.”

“I completed the abdominal imaging fellowship in 2023-24 and am now working as a consultant radiologist in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge UK. I would describe the fellowship year as the perfect finishing school before independent practice. With an unparalleled exposure to high-volume, complex abdominal imaging across all modalities the fellowship year is a unique opportunity to refine your skills and work with a variety of world leading radiologists.
In addition to the clinical experience, the fellowship offered the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research, with robust support and guidance from supervisors who were invested in my professional growth. Their encouragement and accessibility created an environment where I felt supported to excel in both clinical and academic pursuits.
Most importantly, you finish the fellowship with a group of like-minded colleagues and form an invaluable network of friends that you will have for the rest of your career.”

“I completed my Abdominal Imaging fellowship at University Medical Imaging Toronto (UMIT) from 2020 to 2022, and it was a transformative experience in my career. The program’s strengths include comprehensive teaching activities such as Fellow Rounds, Interesting Cases Rounds, and City-Wide Rounds, along with multiple Multidisciplinary Rounds, extensive research opportunities, insightful readouts with engaged staff, and exposure to a wide variety of cases across all hospitals.
Most importantly, the people in this Division are truly inspiring. The environment is extremely collegial among co-fellows, residents, technologists, staff, and other team members. These qualities were essential for my professional and personal growth during the fellowship and played a key role in my decision to pursue a career as a staff Abdominal Radiologist in this Division immediately after completing my fellowship.”
Dr Adriano Basso Dias
Staff abdominal Radiologist, JDMI Toronto
“I thoroughly enjoyed my Abdominal Imaging fellowship at JDMI. The fellowship is structured to provide exposure to all major modalities and facets of abdominal imaging. One of the strongest suits of the fellowship is its faculty, comprising of some of the most well-known names in abdominal imaging. I had the first-hand opportunity to learn from and engage in meaningful discussions with the faculty on a daily basis. I felt that I was in the know of the most recent emerging trends and ideas at the forefront of body imaging.
The fellowship is well-recognized amongst the radiology colleagues throughout Canada, some of whom are themselves alumni of the fellowship. The fellowship provided the confidence and competence I needed before starting my staff position at the North York General Hospital. The on-call experience during the fellowship prepared me well for the real-world calls, which are an integral part of today’s radiology. The strong knowledge base I acquired has allowed me to be a go-to person for abdominal cases at my institution. The 4 weeks of procedural experience at the Biopsy Centre was invaluable in increasing my hands-on confidence and was directly relevant to my current role. I was also able to have 2 months of obstetrical imaging during my fellowship, which has tremendously helped me in our Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic at NYGH.
Whether you plan on a career in academia or community, the JDMI Abdominal Imaging fellowship is an incredible experience that I highly recommend!”
Dr. Devang Odedra

“I spent there years at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging, completing a two year clinical-research fellowship in the division of Abdominal imaging / Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, followed by fellowship in Vascular Interventional Radiology. The skills acquired and the network I developed during my time at JDMI were an ideal preparation for my appointment as a Consultant diagnostic and interventional radiologist in Dublin, Ireland. I maintain strong connections with JDMI and I will encourage my trainees to consider fellowships at University of Toronto in future. “
Dr. Gerard Healy

“I found the JDMI Abdominal Fellowship to be extremely helpful in setting me up for my current work in diagnostic radiology in Sydney, Australia. One of the highlights of the fellowship was the 3 months of dedicated MRI time with a high volume of MR in every abdominal field (i.e. hepatobiliary, pelvic, genitourinary) which was very valuable, in addition to direct feedback from staff specialists who are leading experts in the field.”
